Alabama Respite has FREE training available for caregivers and faith-based communities.
HTWC Toolkit The Helping Those Who Care Assistive Technology Toolkit is a great tool to find AT devices for your loved ones who may struggle with vision, hearing, self-feeding/drinking, memory, and other barriers that challenge living independently.
Respite Education and Support Tools (R.E.S.T.) is a comprehensive, 8-hour training for volunteer respite providers. Alabama Respite has staff members certified to teach this program. Learn more about R.E.S.T. at www.restprogram.org. There are fees associated with this training but ask about scholarships and/or payment options.
Living Well Alabama is a chronic disease self-management course that Alabama Respite offers at no charge to participants in some areas of the state. It is a 6-week course that lasts two hours each week and focuses on guiding participants to make small changes that will ultimately allow them to take control of their chronic condition and live life to the fullest. Additionally, Alabama Respite will provide or coordinate shorter, targeted training regarding the following topics:
