Alabama Lifespan Respite distributed a Respite Education Survey (April 2021) to caregivers statewide to gain insight into what education topics are currently most important to caregivers. The most popular caregiver education topic identified was “Caregiver Resources and Supports” with 75 percent of those surveyed responding that they need more information about public, private, state, local, faith-based, community-based, for-profit and/or non-profit agencies that are providing respite care services and other supports to caregivers.

In response, Alabama Lifespan Respite has established a quarterly CARE (Caregiver and Agency Resource Exchange) forum for state and local agencies to share resource information with caregivers and, in turn, for caregivers to help agencies identify and potentially reduce gaps in caregiver services and supports.
